Nice Alternative To VLC

by Juan on April 27th, 2007

NicePlayer is a great alternative to VLC. So far VLC is still king of my video players simply because I’ve been using it for a long time and have had good experiences with it. Sure it hangs from time to time, the video lags when my G4 is doing other things but as a whole it’s still pretty good.

Vic pointed out NicePlayer to me and told me to give it a try. He’s been using it and said that it’s a good alternative to VLC. The thing he loves most is that it’s borderless. Meaning it seems that the video is just floating. The controls appear when you hover your mouse over it. Much like how iTunes handles video.

I downloaded it and gave it a go. I’m liking it so far. The thing I like most as of now is how it handles scrubbing. When you’re draggign through the video’s timeline, VLC at least the one installed on my system seems to lag for a bit before playing the video. NicePlayer seems to be doing a better job at it.

So far so good. I’m going to try it more tom and I suggest you do as well. Lets exchange notes after.
