Need To Change Your Mac OS Short Name? This Script Is For You
Hold it! Before we begin, this is something that you should only do when you absolutely must! Let me repeat that. When you absolutely must! With that out of the way, on with the show.
Gabe from PhilMUG pointed this nifty script out to change your Short Name. For people who initially put it a Short Name that they don’t like now for one reason or another when they were setting up their Macs, ChangeShortName is the one to use. It does the dirty work for you.
It basically does what this Apple support article says. It also attempts to correct any mistakes that were made if you attempted to do it manually.
Now, before you even attempt to try this out, make sure you backup your files. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Oh, again, do this only and only when you absolutely must!
